Green Peppers in Black & White

I was going through an old box of black & white negatives (1980s) when i found this still life I shot many, many years ago. I scanned it in and it made a lovely print. I kind of miss shooting with film, the wide latitude-not the mess or expense.

Good Friday ...

Good Friday is the mirror held up by Jesus so that we can see ourselves in all our stark reality, and then it turns us to that cross and to his eyes and we hear these words, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." 

That's us! 


So we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.


 We see in Him a love so amazing so divine that it loves us even when we turn away from it, or spurn it, or crucify it. 

There is no faith without understanding that through Him we see into the heart of God and find it filled with mercy for the sinner whoever he or she may be. 

Chinooks in Amarillo

I caught a couple of Chinooks out at the airport today - and just had to take a few photos. I've seen them here often (from Ft Hood I'm thinking) but they are always impressive none-the-less.

I captured this Robin this morning on my balcony. Although I see them everywhere, they usually are too shy to visit my feeder. I guess he wanted to see what the sparrows and cowbirds were fighting over.

I watched one of my favorite old "computers are evil" themed movies today: Colossus: the Forbin Project and was inspired to make this for my desktop. Now your computer can be evil too. Colossus makes HAL look like a abacus.

I hear they are making a remake.

Sparrow under glass

I've been experimenting with the sparrows whom frequent the bird feeder on my apartment balcony. They've become so accustomed to being fed that on most morning I find them waiting patiently waiting for me to fill it. As a result they are becoming quite tame and tolerate my close proximity because they know it means a free meal.

I've been experimenting a tad - by removing the feeder and putting in its place different (and I'm sure to them) odd shaped containers holding their bird seed, just to see how they will react and also hoping for different and unique photo opportunities.

In this example I replaced their feeder with a wine goblet hoping to catch a photo of a bird inside it, but have yet to do so. Instead they stand just outside it - pecking at the seed through the glass, sometimes furiously. To them it must seem like some kind of alien force-field - tempting them with food so close yet unreachable.

In this shot the lighting was just about perfect as this female came up and lifting one leg tried to peck through the glass. Looking at it all I can think it's too bad sparrows don't wear top hats and sing "Putting on the Ritz."
